Chatterbox Basics 101

#1 Post by donnamatrix » Tue Aug 12, 2008 1:30 pm

Hello everyone and welcome to the Chatterbox Basics 101!

This information is meant to be a very quick & dirty reference guide to the buttons and controls on the chatterbox unit, and how to get up and running fairly quickly.

####################################################

:!: Note: rotations are based on when you are wearing the chatterbox on the left side of your helmet

* Example:
- rotate to your left (or towards the outside) = ( )^
- rotate to your right (or towards the inside) = ^( )

======================================================

:arrow: Power:
- On = ( )^
- Off = ^( )

======================================================

***** You can set users to talk on different channels and/or groups *****

:arrow: Set channel [BIG # on left]:
1- Press up or down on CH arrows
2- Press "PTT" to set

:arrow: Set groups [smaller # on right]:
1- Press "Mode" button once
2- While # is blinking, press up or down to choose group #
3- Press "PTT to select

======================================================

***** You can use PTT (push to talk) or VOX (handsfree voice activated) to initiate communications with another party *****

:arrow: PTT wrist band:
1- Connect wrist PTT cable to the connector cord, then plug into PTT jack on back of the unit
2- Push button on wrist band to begin talking to your party. Make sure to hold down the button for the duration of your transmission
3- Release the button to clear channel for incoming transmissions

:arrow: Vox:
1- Speak to initiate transmission (you will hear your voice over the speakers once initiated)
2- Remain silent to receive incoming transmission
3- Adjust Vox sensitivity as needed (a*)
4- Adjust volume as needed (b*)

:arrow: Adjust Vox sensitivity (a*):
- Higher = ( )^
- Lower = ^( )
:!: Note: you may have to adjust sensitivity several times throughout your ride, due to wind, high speeds, road conditions, external noise, etc

:arrow: Volume (b*):
- Up/Down on soft-keys above power/vox knob

======================================================

***** Available ports and their uses*****

:arrow: Mic jack:
- The closed-face helmet mic and speakers will be connected to this port

:arrow: Audio-In jack:
- Connect your MP3 player to this port
- You will need to purchase a special cable for this, available from an electronics store
- Music will be muted during transmissions

:arrow: PTT jack:
- Plug the PTT wrist band connector cord to this port

:arrow: AUX-in jack:
- Connect your cell phone to receive calls via the chatterbox, through this port
- You will need to purchase an optional cable for this, available from the manufacturer
- When you receive a call, press the Monitor button to answer the call (some phones may have to be set to "auto-answer"). Press again to end the call.
- Note: More than one party may participate in the phone conversation via their chatterbox

Any questions or comments, please let me know. Also, I have this in a simple .rtf file that I can easily send to your phone email or personal email. Just pm me if you want me to send it to you.

Thanks! :)

I can only hear you now Josh.

"Anthony, how do you lean like that?"
"Hey.. get back on the seat"
"Where'd you go?"
"Are we there yet?"
"Steph is going to be pissed!"

Just my .02... did you all know those "2 way walkie talkies" that moniter the same channel you are on, can be used in support vehicles? They are only good for about a 2 mile range though. 8)

"Hey, did you just lose something off of your bike?"

Thank you so much for all the information, Donna. I'm sure it will be a lot more intuitive once we start using them.
