Motorcyclist, driver die in East Bay crashes

(10-19) 13:46 PDT OAKLAND -- A motorcyclist was killed on a winding, remote road and the driver of a vehicle that fell from a roadway and burst into flames died in separate crashes this weekend in Alameda County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

In the most recent incident, an unidentified driver was pronounced dead after a car went off southbound Interstate 880 near downtown Oakland at 5:21 a.m. this morning, fell down to a street and caught fire, trapping and killing the driver, the CHP said.

Earlier, 52-year-old James Perry of Alameda was killed when he crashed his motorcycle at 3:27 p.m. Saturday on the right shoulder of Redwood Road in Redwood Regional Park northeast of Oakland. County firefighters attempted to resuscitate Perry, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The CHP is investigating the causes of both crashes.
