Motorcyclist fleeing from police dies in Oakley

#1 Post by MistrissKittie » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:18 am

A 32-year-old motorcyclist being chased by an Oakley police officer died after he hit a car, authorities said today.

The incident began at about 10:20 p.m. Monday when an officer tried to stop the motorcycle for an unspecified reason, said Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the Contra Costa County sheriff's office, which patrols the city.

The motorcyclist refused to stop, leading the officer on a three-minute pursuit, Lee said.

The officer lost sight of the motorcycle, but another officer spotted it several minutes later and resumed the pursuit, Lee said.

The motorcyclist soon collided with a car at the corner of Laurel Road and Mercedes Lane in Oakley, Lee said. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the car weren't hurt.

The identity of the motorcyclist was withheld pending notification of his family.

The incident is being investigated by the sheriff's office and county prosecutors, which is routine when a law enforcement incident results in a death, Lee said.

Wow, my husbands friend did the same thing in Stockton like a year ago. Crazy!

@Heather - That is crazy. I know a person who did the same thing. He was luck to walk away with his life. Not so luck with the law.
No regrets!
